Expertise & Analysis
This image shows the Buddha standing on a small, integral base. The iconography combines two meaningful elements. The right hand holds the alms bowl (Pang Um Bat), which symbolizes the reciprocal relationship, humility, and compassion between monks and lay people. The left hand is raised in the Abhaya mudra, the hand position that represents the expulsion of fear and the offering of spiritual protection.
The statue features a characteristic high, flaming ushnisha, typical of Thai style periods. The fine folds of the monk's robe and the facial features bear witness to solid craftsmanship. The surface displays a natural, dark green to brown patina with light traces of ritual powder/dust, indicating historical use on a home altar.
Based on the iconography, the bronze quality, and the popularity of the 'Wednesday Buddha' among collectors.
