Large Polychrome Balinese Statue – Rishi (Sage) on Lotus Base
This exceptional wooden statue from Bali (c. 1950) is a masterpiece of spiritual expression. It depicts a Rishi (a sacred sage) in a reverent posture, standing on a lotus flower. The sage holds a Kamandalu (ritual water pot), a powerful symbol of spiritual purity and wisdom.
Rich Polychromy and Artistic Details
The statue is hand-carved from solid hardwood and decorated with an extensive color palette of red, green, and gold. The back of the figure is adorned with complex floral motifs, and the clothing features the classic checkered pattern. The lively, expressive facial features bear witness to the high level of Balinese craftsmanship from the mid-20th century.
